London June 2017 Day 13 – Husk and Greenwich

This last day of our stay in London was a very warm one, so we decided to spend it in Greenwich Park. However, first we needed something to eat, so we interrupted our journey by DLR at Limehouse Station. Opposite the station on Commercial Road you find Husk, a place which is much more than just a café.

There we had tea, soup and cake. Afterwards we travelled on to the Cutty Sark Station for a long stroll through Greenwich.

When we became tired we returned to Husk for some more tea and more to eat :)

London June 2017 Day 12 – In Little Dorrit’s Footsteps

In the late morning we met our landlady Sue in a restaurant called German Gymnasium, close to King’s Cross Station. It was in 2013 that we had stayed in her holiday flat in Walthamstow for the first time and because we liked it so much we rented it again for our stays in 2014, 2016 and 2017 (we had not been in London in 2015). However, more than the flat we liked Sue. Whenever we met her (usually just on our arrival and departure) we found so much to talk about, but had so little time, so this time we finally agreed to meet during our stay and talk some more :)

Afterwards Hermann and I went to see the remains (that is one wall) of the Marshalsea Prison which became famous with Charles Dickens’s novel “Little Dorrit”.

From there we walked towards Borough Market where most of the stalls were already closed and from there to the Thames.

Underneath the bridge for the trains to and from London Bridge Station we found this sign. Hermann tried it, but it didn’t work ;)

London June 2017 Day 8 – First day of LCM Summer School

In the morning we went to Villiers Street, because the day before someone at Belmont Hall told us there was a Herman ze German shop, so I wanted to take a photo of Hermann in front of it ;)

It was too early for lunch as we had just had breakfast, so we didn’t go in. It’s on our list for next time we will be in London.

By lunch time we took the tube to London Bridge Station.

From there we walked to the London City Mission HQ on Tower Bridge Road where we attended the first day of summer school. We had decided not to take part in all the lessons and excursions, as some of it was the same as the year before. However, it was lovely to meet some of the LCM staff again. Afterwards we walked to Tower Hill Station to return to Walthamstow.

London June 2017 Day 7 – Tottenham and Belmont Hall Harrow

The weather was beautiful, so we decided not to take a long tube ride but go just two stations from Walthamstow Central to Tottenham Hale. Close to the station is Hale Village, an estate which looks rather new and very clean.

Dogs are welcome there obviously :)

From there we took a foot path along the River Lea (or Lee, obviously both names are used). We had thought it would be rather quiet on a Sunday morning, but of course this is London, too, so it wasn’t. Many people (and animals) were already active along the river.

We followed the river to Markfield Recreation Ground where we left it to reach Seven Sisters Station to return “home” to Walthamstow.

In the later afternoon we went to Harrow for the evening service at Belmont Hall. After the service we were invited to stay for a little birthday party as one of them had turned 60.
